Adult Spring Hikes: Talapus & Olallie Lakes
Age 18 yrs-adult
With a moderate grade on a wide trail, the 5 mile hike to Talapus Lake is the perfect introduction to the outdoors for hikers and beginning backpackers with a 1220 ft. elevation gain. We will head into a dark, cool forest on a wide, if somewhat uneven trail. The grade is moderate, allowing you to enjoy the tall cedars and hemlocks all around you. The trail steepens soon, switchbacking up as Talapus Creek flows downhill to your right. Be on the lookout for a great photo opportunity at a sharp switchback about 1.3 miles in, where Talapus Creek foams into a ravine just off the trail. Upon arrival at Talapus, we can break out lunch of press on to Olallie Lake about a mile and a half up trail, where open campsites offer lakeside heavens with calm waters and views of a beautiful lake basin.
Difficulty Rating: Moderate.
